Official Rules & Format – Bull Riding Competition
- Registration & Identification
- All participants must register at the designated check-in area before competing.
- Upon registration, each rider will receive a numbered wristband that must be worn throughout the event for identification and organizational purposes.
- Waiver & Rider Agreement
- All riders must complete and sign the official Bull Riding Waiver Form before participating.
- Riders must also agree to and comply with all posted “Bull Rules” (outlined below) as a condition of entry.
- Practice Rounds
- Each participant is granted two (2) guaranteed practice rides before the start of elimination rounds.
- Practice rounds are for warm-up only and will not be scored.
- Bull Operation & Fairness
- The mechanical bull will operate in Auto Mode at standardized difficulty levels
- All participants will face identical challenge levels to ensure fair competition within each division.
- Maximum ride time is 60 seconds. If multiple riders consistently reach the maximum ride time, difficulty will be increased incrementally in subsequent rounds to ensure progression and competitive differentiation.
- Scoring & Timing
- A rider’s Best Time is defined as the longest duration stayed on the bull without dismounting, measured from the moment the bull begins moving until the rider falls or releases grip.
- Times are officially recorded by the stopwatch operator and updated after each ride.
- Rider names and times will be displayed on the event scoreboard in real-time.
- Elimination Rounds
- Each rider receives two (2) consecutive competition rides per round.
- The better of the two times is used to determine advancement.
- Riders with the lowest scores are eliminated after each round, continuing until four (4) participants remain in each division.
- Final Rounds
- The top four riders will enter the semifinals, matched in two head-to-head showdowns.
- Winners of each match advance to the championship round, while the semifinal losers will compete for third place.
- Championship Format
- A coin toss determines which finalist rides first.
- The final round is not best-of-two:
- Each finalist gets one ride.
- If the second rider beats the first rider’s time, the first rider may take one final attempt to win.
- This may repeat for a total of up to four (4) combined rides between both finalists.
- In case of a tie, the format will repeat until a winner is declared.

- Bull Rules
- One-Hand Rule:
Riders must use only one hand on the bull’s handle at all times during the ride.
- Bracing, grabbing the saddle, bull frame, ropes, or any other part of the bull with the free hand is strictly prohibited.
- Incidental contact will result in a one-time warning. A second infraction will result in ride disqualification.
- Maximum Ride Time:
The maximum ride time is 60 seconds.- If multiple riders consistently reach the maximum time in later rounds, the bull’s difficulty will be increased to ensure competitive fairness and ranking.
- Rider Behavior:
- Riders must follow all staff instructions at all times.
- Roughhousing, reckless behavior, or attempts to sabotage the bull or surroundings will result in immediate disqualification.
- Attire:
- No shoes, or hard sharp objects e.g. pens, jewellery. Glasses are best removed.
